- You’ll see your driver’s picture and vehicle details, and can track their arrival on the map.
- Payment can be made by credit card, cash (in selected cities only), Apple Pay, PayPal and more.
- After the ride, you can rate your driver and provide feedback to help us improve the Uber experience. You’ll also get a receipt by email.

When we need to get somewhere quickly and cheaply, this popular ride-sharing app motors to our rescue. We appreciate the variety in our vehicle choices—from budget-friendly carpools to swanky SUVs—as much as we love knowing when our ride is arriving and exactly how much it’ll cost. Heck, now we even use it as a verb: “We’re going to Uber to your place. Be right there!”

Revised: Uber reimbursed for Wrongly Charged Cancellation Fee

Two years after a new street was built in the CCRC John Knox Village, a gated community in Orange City, FL, and the mapping services still do not know the correct name of Holly Branch Lane -they call it Wild Holly Drive. Given a destination on Holly Branch Lane, the routing tells a drive to get there (Wild Holly) via Monastery Road, but there is an unmanned gate there for residents only. When I ordered a ride *from* Holly Branch Lane, I included comments to driver that he had to enter the gated community through Trafford Ave. He ignored my directions and texted me he couldn't get in at Monastery. I resent him the instructions. He cancelled the ride. I have been charged a cancellation fee. So my gripes are: get your maps updated, and do not charge me when the driver ignores instructions. This morning I had a very fine driver who delivered me *to* Holly Branch Lane, but I had to give him instructions on how to get there as we rode to the destination because the map was wrong.
Update: Uber reimbursed the cancellation fee, so I’ve upgraded the rating. But I did have to challenge the fee. There are many gated communities with gates for residents only. I’ve written to Google Maps and Mapquest about this particular gate. We should all let mapping services know about such locations. But you would think local Uber drivers would know these.

Uber App Feedback

Complaints always seem to be first on the mind when rating. So before launching that, I will say that the quality of service is higher than all others in the same class of rider apps and service. However, the change to anonymous calls to drivers and anonymous texts is highly questionable since its the only option. And who could blame them for not answering. It’s not like one is likely to be calling to chat about the weather. Rather the normal scenario is that the time to arrival just doubled, car is headed in the opposite direction than the app indicates and you are already 15 minutes late for your appointment because the past two drivers cancelled the ride after you waited 8-10 minutes. And Uber has no customer service in real time- so at best you can report whatever and a couple of days later you will receive a well groomed response but in real time you are on your own. Transportation in NYC has been revolutionized by rider apps. And some are actually cheaper than the old stalwart, a yellow cab. But that’s not our Uber which is at the top range on average but doesn’t spike to ridiculous 4-5x normal price during special periods quite as egregiously as one of its competitors. So if you are new to the city, take the tips and if you are Uber, do better since you are absolutely being paid to do and if not, another will fill the gap. That’s what rider apps have in their future according to my hopeful prediction.
