Anyway, I got a free download of The Girl with All the Gifts (yay!) from the Audiobook Mobile over the weekend. I downloaded the zip file to my desktop at work, and it's in 3 mp3 files. I do not want to listen using the music app on my iPhone (no bookmarks, etc.) and there is no 'iTunes library' button on my iPhone Audible app.
Is there a way to get the files into my Audible app in a way that won't require me to write code or tear my hair out?
TIA!
When you are done with your book, you may need to delete it from your Music app instead of the Audible app. You may also want to delete it from your iTunes playlist.
This may be harder than it needs to be for one audiobook, but if you are going to listen to more this way, it makes the whole process pretty painless!
Thanks so much!

You're welcome! I dislike the Overdrive player (it tends to skip on me and not download parts correctly), so I listen to most of my Overdrive audiobooks via either Audible or an app called SpeedUp Player.
And one more thing: you may have to refresh your Audible iTunes tab after a sync. You do it the same way you do your Audible library, just hit refresh or swipe down. :-)
Now if we would just play the non-audible books at a speed greater than 1X

Thanks for holding my hand, everyone!
Yes, make sure your audiobook is saved as an audiobook rather than music. Sorry I forgot that!
Open iTune Music Library.
Select the tracks.
Right-click and select 'Get Info'.
Open the 'Options' tab.
Set:
Equilizer Preset = Spoken Word
Media Kind = Audiobook
Part of a compilation = No
Remember position = Yes
Skip when shuffling = Yes
Gapless album = No
Press OK.
Your file will be shifted to Book/Audiobook folder.
Just 'sync' the device with iTune, you are done.

The speed playback for overdrive has 1.5 which is perfect for me.
However iTunes audiobook has only .5, 1, and 2.0.
And audible does not allow speed control from audiobooks in itunes library. Sucks :(.
I guess this is as closs as I can get ...
I'm in the exact same boat. Wasted a ton of time trying to get it to work, added to a playlist, ensured it was in the right order, opened Audible and boom, everything is a joke.
I'm testing out Bookmobile, but so far I'm not horribly impressed. I tried adding through a Podcast app (Downcast) but you basically have to do it a file at a time, I'm going to try adding it in via iTunes File Sharing, but damn do they make it so hard. We're supposed to be in a post PC world, and this is certainly not embracing that.
I did, it works fine for the iTunes, but doesn't help with the Audible app. :(
I always rename each disk I have uploaded into in iTunes, example Attachments 01_11 and Attachments 02_11, etc.
It is important to use 01 when there are more than 9 discs.
You can go back and rename existing uploaded cd's with the 'get info' right click option or do it up front as you download. Good luck!
I would love to be able to listen to Overdrive audiobooks in Audible. I can't figure out how to get the Overdrive books into iTunes though. Can someone help?
Have you tried Smart Audio book player? I have found that I love it way more than the audible player on my phone. I move my audible books onto that program too because I find it so much more user friendly. Plus, you have way more control over changing the speeds on Smart audio. It goes in 10% speed changes instead of the 50% change options for audible.
I got mine from google play. Smart AudioBook Player is what it's called. Everyone I know that does audiobook swears by it also. I've never actually donated to a develop before I used this program for a month, and I can't imagine it getting better.
Do you think Smart Audio app will also be able to upload downloads from Tantor? I've been frustrated with the import into iTunes because you can't bookmark in iTunes. Plus, when I listen to an iTunes book through the Audible app, it won't let you listen at a faster speed. For most books, I enjoy 1.5 speed. Finally, where can I find uploading instructions for Smart Audio. It's fairly easy to import books into iTunes. I just don't know how to do it for an app. Thanks!

I'm not sure. If I've ever had an issue with the format of something, I just reformat it to MP3.
As far as I know, Smart AudioBook player isn't available for iPhones (or any iOS devices), unfortunately; hopefully someone else will chime in here if I'm wrong.

Nope. That doesn't work either. Someone must know how to fix this :) Help!
I used this link to help me: http://mp3.about.com/od/itunes/qt/How...
Once I finished what the instructions said...then I'd connect my phone into my computer, drag the audiobook from iTunes into my phone and it would then be available in the Audible app once I synced.
I got rid my iPhone last year and switched to android. I found I couldn't get MP3 books to play in Audible like I used to, so I switched to Smart Audiobook player and found it to be much better than the Audible player. I particularly like that it has an increase volume button, which is great for when I use my Bluetooth speaker.
It is the only program I know of that can convert to M4B (audiobook). All the others convert to the standard M4A (M4A doesn't show as audiobook on lphone but will still play).
Ps I now have an iPhone 6 with 64gb of room for my books.
I'm pretty sure they do. Whenever I purchase a Whispersync book, both appear in my Kindle carousel. I listen most frequently through my iPhone app, but if I'm in the house and open up the Kindle version of the audiobook, it asks me if I want to go to the last place I stopped listening on my iPhone. Same with the Kindle book.
One word of caution though, you must save a bookmark no matter where you stop listening. Otherwise you'll be starting on the kindle earlier in the book than when you actually stopped listening. Since I got in the habit of bookmarking every time I stop listening or reading, I've experienced no issues jumping from my iPhone to my Kindle and vice verse.
No, not if it's not an Audible audio. Only the Audible audiobook is synched with an Amazon Kindle - that's what the Whispersync is about.
If you bought an audiobook from another place, say directly from Tantor Audio, it won't synch with your Kindle. If you buy an Audible audio but your ebook is NOT an Amazon Kindle, it won't sync either.
So your audiobook must be an Audible audio.
Your ebook must be an Amazon Kindle.
Then they will whispersync.
I'm confused....not just by Peggy's post but by many of the above. I too have an iphone5 that I listen to all my audiobooks on. Overdrive or Audible doesn't matter as far as listening since I listen at 1x always; it's true each has it's issues but they aren't that big a deal for me.
The confusion: I thought Overdrive was a library app....so how can you move them? This is not meant to really ask how, just a question.
All I really want to do is download the overdrive books to a cd or ? so I can listen later but can't figure out how to do it on a Mac or iOS device. I think I remember seeing a way on my PC but don't want to do that if possible. Then I guess I could play it ...... where?
Thank you for any help.
I don't think you can listen to non-Audible audiobooks using the Audible app. Sorry!
Audible has their own app to download so can listen to your purchased books.
The cd of daisy rom I borrow from the library I rip to m4b to listen to in the Audible app and this works fine.
How do you get it to show up in the library?
I know it also can be done with mp3 but a lot of people complain that the Audible app plays them out of order. So I would go to the trouble of making the mp3's an audiobook in iTunes first.
Audible has their own app to download so can listen to your purchased books.'
I already do that. I use both the Overdrive app and Audible. I like the Audible app better so I just wondered if there was a way to listen to the library books on the Audible app instead of Overdrive.
I could not find the Smart AudioBook Player app in the Apple app store. Is that the exact name? Can you listen to the library books in that app? Also, how do you get your Audible books to open in that app? Thanks!
I could not find the Smart AudioBook Player app in the Apple app store. ...'
Unfortunately, the Smart Audiobook Player App isn't available for iOS (Apple) devices.
You can use Overdrive (not the Overdrive App) on your computer to download the MP3 files. I guess you could save the files to CD's at that point.
Another approach is to import the MP3 files into iTunes, update some settings on the files in iTunes and then sync them to an iOS device where you can listen to them in iBooks (or in the Music app for older devices that don't support audiobooks in iBooks) or some third party apps such as Bookmobile. These MP3 file books don't seem to work in the Audible app as the files play out of order.
Apple seems to be moving away from supporting audiobooks saved as MP3 files so this process is a little uglier than it used to be.
Like Specs, I think the best thing to do with the MP3 files once you've downloaded them to your computer is is to convert them to an M4B file (which Apple and Audible both treat as a book), then import the M4B into iTunes, and sync it to your device. The M4B file will play in the Audible app (at 1x speed), as well as iBooks, Bookmobile, etc. I've heard there are free pacakges you can use to create M4B files, but I use Markable which you have to purchase (maybe $25?); someone else has suggested a package called AVS.

Thank you! That is very helpful! I will give it a shot then see if it is worth the extra hassle. Overdrive isn't terrible, I just don't like it that much!
